The Asia Foundation-Stanford APARC Fellowship

The Asia Foundation-Stanford APARC Fellowship

The Asia Foundation, in collaboration with Stanford University's Walter H. Shorenstein Asia Pacific Research Center (APARC), awards a research fellowship to a Southeast Asian emerging leader as a Visiting Fellow at APARC. The Fellow's academic year is followed by a summer affiliation with one of The Asia Foundation's 17 field offices.

For the academic year 2007-2008, Mr. Dennis Arroyo, Director of National Planning in the Philippines' National Economic Development Authority, received The Asia Foundation-Stanford APARC Fellowship. His research resulted in a provocative paper on "The Political Economy of Successful Reform: Asian Strategems." Download the abstract of Mr. Arroyo's paper. Download the full paper from Stanford University APARC's website.

Following his Visiting Fellowship at Stanford University, Mr. Arroyo spent two months in The Asia Foundation's Korea office. His work there included expanding his research on reform efforts to the present in Korea, and assessing aspects of Korea's development experience and current economic and administrative practices of possible relevance to other countries.
