GUIDELINES FOR GIVING STOCK
Electronic Transfers
The most direct way for you to contribute stock to The Asia Foundation is through an electronic transfer (DTC) from your brokerage account to the Foundation's primary account at Citigroup Smith Barney.
To initiate a stock gift, please write a brief letter of instruction outlining i) the number of shares, ii) the name of the stock, and iii) which brokerage the transfer will come from. Please note: this information is essential because when stock is transferred electronically, the Foundation has no way of determining who gave it and cannot give you credit or acknowledge your gift.
Your broker will need the following information on the Foundation's account:
Citigroup Institutional Consulting
111 Santa Rosa Ave., Suite 200
Santa Rosa, CA 95404
Account Representative: John Jordan,
Phone #: 707-571-5726
Fax #: 707-571-5775
Account number: 551-05137-15-008
DTC number: 0418
Gift Valuation - The date of your gift is the date of the electronic transfer; the value of your gift is based on the average of the high and the low of the stock on the date of transfer. Remember that if you sell stock yourself, you will not receive the tax benefit from the appreciated value of your securities.
Stock Certificates
If you hold your stock in certificate form, you can either make your gift through the mail or in person. You will need to give us the following:
1. A brief letter of instruction providing the name of the stock and number of shares that you wish to give to the Foundation.
2. A signed stock power for each certificate that you wish to give. Your broker can provide you with a stock power or you can request one from Ryan Guasco at 415-743-3361. You only need to sign your name on the stock power. Please leave the rest blank.
3. The unsigned stock certificate(s).
Please note that a signed stock certificate is legal tender. Therefore, if you mail the stock certificate, we strongly recommend that you mail the certificate and the stock power in separate envelopes and that you send the stock certificate via registered mail.
Valuation of Gift - The date of your gift is either the date you present your stock certificate and stock power to the Foundation or the postmark date if you mail your stock certificate. If you send the stock overnight mail (FedEx, etc.), the date of the gift will be the date the Foundation receives the gift. The value of your gift is based on the average of the high and the low of the stock on the date of the gift.
